What to bring to your consultation
- A list of your medication, with doses
- Any previous CT scan or imaging
- The operative note, if you have had nose surgery before
- Known allergies and previous operations
- Tell us if you take blood thinners
If you are travelling from abroad
A preliminary discussion using photographs is possible. It helps outline expectations but does not replace an examination and does not produce a definitive surgical plan. A plan made without endoscopic assessment is incomplete.
If surgery is planned, days are usually set aside before the operation for examination and tests, and after it for the first review and splint removal. Total time depends on what is planned, so please discuss it before booking flights.
Nasal dryness can increase after flying. Saline spray is recommended.
Consultations can be held in Turkish or English.
Preparation before surgery
- Blood tests and, if needed, cardiology assessment are completed
- Whether to stop blood thinners is decided with the prescribing doctor
- Smoking impairs healing; you will be asked to stop or pause
- Fasting time before surgery is given by the anaesthetic team
- Arrange for someone to be with you for the first days after surgery
Why follow-up matters
In nose surgery part of the result is determined in theatre and part during healing. At follow-up the inside of the nose is cleaned endoscopically, crusting is managed and swelling is monitored.
Missed reviews allow small, correctable problems to grow. If you live elsewhere, the follow-up plan is arranged accordingly.
From first contact to the one-year review
First contact
An appointment by phone or WhatsApp. If you are travelling from another city or from abroad, a preliminary discussion can be held using photographs, though it does not replace an examination.
Examination and endoscopic assessment
External examination, endoscopic assessment inside the nose and imaging where needed. Whether your expectation fits your anatomy is discussed at this consultation.
Surgical planning
What will be done to which structure, why that technique was chosen, and the realistic range of outcomes. Pre-operative tests are requested.
Day of surgery
The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia. Duration depends on what is planned. Length of stay and whether splints will be used are confirmed beforehand.
Follow-up
Reviews at day one, week one, month three and year one. Healing varies from person to person; the nose usually takes about a year to settle.
Frequently asked questions
How long does the first consultation take?
Examination, endoscopic assessment and the planning discussion are usually done together. The time depends on the extent of your complaint.
Can I have surgery on the same day?
No. Pre-operative tests must be completed and the plan made. This step cannot be skipped safely.
Do I need someone with me?
Yes, for the first day after general anaesthesia.
What if I cannot attend follow-up?
If you live elsewhere the follow-up plan is adjusted and remote review used where appropriate. At least the first review should still be in person.
